Come along and bring those you know to see the first two of a trilogy of autobiographical performances I'm doing this autumn, collectively called Patchwork. These unusual shows are full of true stories, surreal imagery and compassionate humour, and are arguably the strangest thing I have ever done. The first one takes place amid the pastoral landscape paintings of a beautiful gallery near Holborn, and the second at various locations - the details are below and on the website too. Hello All,

I wanted to make sure you had information about our upcoming show, Reminiscence, at the Jackson's Lane Theatre in London. As some of you will know, the show is a devised piece, inspired by a case study from Oliver Sacks' book, The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat.

It is the story of Mrs O'Connor, who in a bizarre neurological twist is transported to the surreal world of her memories. As her condition becomes increasingly difficult to fathom, Mrs O'Connor and her doctor go on a journey of discovery to the limits of science's ability to fully account for what happens in our minds, and to the limits of our ability to fully recapture the past.

Reminiscence is a piece of total theatre using live music (original compositions inspired by the folk melodies of Eastern Europe) and spectacular visuals to take the audience on a fantastical, poignant and ultimately moving journey through the mind.

There is a two for one offer on the 9th and 10th of September. See the attached flyer for more information.

A fascinating play that explores two different kinds of murder, previews in London at The Courtyard Theatre, Pitfield St, London - 26th & 27th July.

The Murder Monologues, written by Bournemouth-based writers John Foster and Sheila West, has already received rave audience reviews on the south coast and is now moving to The Courtyard Theatre, Bowling Green Walk, Pitfield Street, London on Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th July.

The writers are also taking the show to the Edinburgh Festival this summer (details below) and hope to go on tour in the autumn.

Little Boy, starring former Olympic Swimming Medallist Adrian Turner, is written by BAFTA- wardwinning film & television writer, John Foster, who is also Screenwriter in Residence at Bournemouth University. The story explores the tragic, true-life story of Major Claude Eatherly of the US Air Force, part of the team that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Deceived by he authorities about his mission and unable to atone for his guilt, Eatherly was plagued by nightmares and recovered memories and spent some time in an asylum. Feted both as a war hero and then as an anti-war hero, he later resorted to robbing banks and forging cheques to raise money for Hiroshima’s orphans and war widows and never came to terms with what he had done.

The disturbing Chocolate Cake, starring Conor Irwin and written by Sheila West, takes a chilling tour through the mind of a serial psychopath on Death Row as he remembers the pleasure he felt at the murder of children. A character who is at times obscene and unsettling and at other times verging on the sympathetic, he takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster ride towards a shocking and unexpected conclusion.

Daring, thought-provoking and poignant, the Murder Monologues look at the relationship etween murder condemned and murder condoned, between responsibility and detachment, between blame and guilt, and between prison bars and the restraints of the mind.

Here is what I have been up to:

BLAsT! is a new one woman musical created and performed by Keira McDonald with music and lyrics by Dafydd James.

BLAsT! is the story of a lady astronaut who blasted into outer-space and then drove from Houston to Orlando wearing a diaper. When she got there she blasted her love rival in the face with pepper spray!

All of the text is from interviews and the interrogation report. All of the music( save the patter song) is pure imagination...

I work-shopped this piece in Minneapolis with Jason Bohon and Dafydd James ( class of '05.) AND Katie Melby (class of '05) played instruments on the recording.

BLAsT! is touring Regina, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton and Victoria all summer. It will also be produced in Seattle at Theatre Off Jackson's SPF 3: Apply Liberally ( solo performance festival) in March.

E4 UDDERBELLY'S PASTURE (VENUE 300)

THE ubiquitous Mark Watson turns up at the meeting point outside the purple cow to guide us to the venue, a Portakabin public toilet parked up in George Square.

But this show isn't about him, it's about his missus - aka Emily Watson Howes - who has written and performs in an all-girl sketch show set in a ladies' loo. It's an intimate affair that only ten audience members can see at once; while it sounds like a novelty show, though, the setting is actually a brilliant way of stringing together a series of sketches for a female cast.

Characters arrive, interact, and then leave again - just as they would do in a real toilet. A woman comes in to carry out a pregnancy test, a middle-class mother reassures her daughter after a dreadful play and, funniest of all, a stand-up comedienne, rehearsing for her first gig, enlists the help of a stranger to give her a crash course in how to deal with hecklers. There's also a strung-out Egyptologist, a traffic warden who's a mine of misleading celebrity gossip, and a couple of mini-storylines involving a charity mugger and a girl in a chicken outfit.

There's a fantastic cast of characters here, and with tight writing, strong characterisation and snappy delivery, the sketches are laugh-out-loud funny. An hour on a hard seat in a Portakabin is uncomfortable, but I'm already looking forward to telling people in a few years' time: "I saw Emily Watson Howes performing in a toilet in Edinburgh back in 2007."

Don Quixote and Sancho are two friends bound by their gullibility, resilience and love for adventure. They travel on the perilous roads of La Mancha, overcoming obstacles, fear, enchantments, engaging in battles, assisting maidens, getting beaten and prevailing, being fooled and never failing to carry on their famous dispute on the topic of knight errantry. The ever-present ‘wise man’ is writing his story. Dulcinea is weeping somewhere in Toboso, and nothing now can not stop the Knights fame, not even, the end of the show...

Origins of Eleffant-Foot players are diverse and all over the globe: they came from different places, they have been taught different things. Hi Lovely People -

It is with glee that I get to announce Giovanni Fusetti's return to Boulder, this fall, to lead two Clown Workshops!

The workshops are: September 4 - 26th: The Red Nose and October 1 - 14th: Clown's Life.

The deadline for registration is June 21st, and we already have accepted 3 students, with a max of 14, so hop to it, people!

A few notes: If you are a former student of his who just wants to take the advanced course, this is the last year that will be possible. And, if you just want to do The Red Nose - same thing. This is the last year you'll be able to take them separately. Also, this year's students get to perform multiple times, as the culmination of their studies, instead of just once.
So, you'll get to enjoy, learn, and grow as a result of really performing your clown.

The Three Sticks Theatre Company recently performed in a benefit fundraiser for the MN Fringe Festival called Five Fifths of the Fringe.

The idea is to take a classic film and break it down into 5 sections, with each section dissected and reinterpreted by 5 different theatre companies. This year was Wizard of Oz and this is what Three Sticks did:

I just wanted to give a quick update.

I just directed Three Sticks in a fundraiser for the MN Fringe Festival. We had to do the 2nd portion of Wizard of Oz (Munchkinland through Scarecrow) in 15 minutes. (Brought back memories of the film exercise at Lispa.) I also recently performed in the Minnesota Orchestra's Peer Gynt and coached movement for the BFA Juniors in a production of Electra at the University of Minnesota. (These are the Juniors who just spent their fall semester at Lispa.) I am also a teaching artist with Upstream Arts (www.upstreamarts.org) where we use arts education to develop social and vocational skills in youth with disabilities. I'm doing some commercial work (when I can get it) and sent one for you to post if you want. About to start on a clown show with some other artists from Dell'Arte and Lecoq called Aftermath. The Three Sticks Theatre Company presents William Shakespeare's A Midwinter Night's Dream at the 2007 Saint Paul Winter Carnival.

This is the same company that brought the critically acclaimed show Mythed to the 2005 Fringe and a successful return of Borderlines at the 2006 Fringe. Take a ride down the giant snow slide, get lost in the amazing ice maze, take in the beauty of the snow and ice sculptures, and keep warm in the Harriet Island Pavilion, where 8 actors portray 22 roles in Shakespeare's most popular play, adapted and directed by Jason Bohon for a winter season celebration for all ages.

Been busy working since my return to HK. The first show, a big puppet extravaganza called "The Doorgods of my Home", hit the road last week and will run every Sunday; and in a few weeks time I will start rehearsing arerun of another play called "The Overcoat" (based on Gogol's short story ofthe same name). That play will perform in HK in Jan and also tour toSingapore in Feb.

Other than that I am directing a student play, teaching academic/creativewriting, dabbling in film production, and keeping up with my tai-chi. Withall this going on, I'm looking forward to a time in the forseeable futurewhere I can give myself the space and time to create a piece of my own.

I am good.

I am teaching at Cornish College of the Arts. It is a conservatory type program that offers B.A.'s in dance, theatre, design, music, etc...here in Seattle. My title is adjunct but dammitttttt, I hope to be a professor some day. It was my whole reason for going to LISPA. It's kinda like teaching at FAME but it's college and nobody in my class has corn-rows...

The program was heavily influenced by some LeCoq grads in the 70's/80's then they got away from that and are more classical...But in the sophomore year they have auto-cours and now me. The guy before me did some LeCoq type stuff ( he went to DellArte in Blue Lake) And for this year at least I am to follow that circuit ( animals, neutral mask, elements, materials) There is only one problem. Their masks are not neutral. So I am trying to find a solution to this problem...

Adjusting the pedagogy to academia is as problematic as you would guess BUT I LOVE IT!!!!! I mean LOVE IT!!!!! The students have far exceeded my expectations! I LOVE IT!!!! I am also doing some shows and producing a solo festival in the spring and directing a show in the spring as well.

So life is good, my friends...Take care!

working a bad day job, completelly bombed after last Ukranian excursion, failure all around, was sick as a dog from some marine virus attacking everypart of me inside, but i whooped him in the end, sick of seeing the government and cops destroy the last of this beautifull earth, not sure if i should do art or wage war in the name of pluto, although it is fun watching Bush speeches, i find him the most peculiar thing to ever graze upon this redundant political marsh. will have him make an appearance in the next show we are doing, wich is bizare as all hell, and comes from god knows where, and has no name begining or end, it actually has a begining wich gets longer and longer and. rehearsing at 7 AM in a dicrepid squeky floor dance studio, feeling like a total failure and gasping fool.

Have had a very busy year, performing in Washington DC at the Great Big Drag King Extravaganza, (http://www.dckings.com/greatbig/) At Torture Garden in London and Rubber Riot in Liverpool, at Chez Moune in Paris and others, as well as teaching- I have a week long workshop coming up as part of the International Workshop Festival (http://www.workshopfestival.co.uk/) , another weekend for Wise Thoughts, and am also teaching for Bigfoot Drama Academy and at Jackson’s Lane.

And I just came back from the most amazing artist’s retreat in the Champagne country in France, near Epernay, where I was teaching in the morning and working on developing a solo show about Carny Barkers and the search for AN ANSWER in the evening. Every day there were 3 hours lunches and 5 hour dinners, all wine fuelled, tons of laughs and people drawing tattoos on each other in a 1904 empty farm/summer camp enclave. And we still managed to get lots of work done!!! Gorgeous and perfect. My French limps along… luckily physical theatre training helps overcome language barriers!

I’m also working on a French/English film coproduction called Love Bath 9/Salle des Bains Neuf that is a dramatic comedy about alternative/queer/TG relationships…

Woof… and boy are my arms tired!

Robin Edwards has been in an open air production of a Midsummer Nights Dream, in the first year of the new Broughton Open Air festival, in Skiption, Yorkshire - a first forrey with the bard since my days as an innocent school boy (sigh...) but, keeping to form, I did convince them to let me fall off a ladder at the end... so all is well.

The set is an airplane, and we have built one. Really. With astroturf.

I am collaborating with Mabou Mines/ HERE Resident Artists "The School for Gifted Children" and we are having a work in Progress showing (tonight) Monday August 28, 8pm at Mabou Mines' Toronada Theatre, at PS 122. 1st Ave and 9th St. Admittance is free, bring a friend.

Split Knuckle '05 - The Pearl in Edinburgh

Hello everyone,

This is just to let you all know how things are going with the Pearl and Split Knuckle. After a week of silence the reviews of the Pearl are starting to come out. Good reviews are always nice to have, but here at the Festival they are very important. There are literally thousands of shows going on here as well as a book festival, a music festival, a film festival and even a physic festival. So people really depend on reviews to figure out what to go see. It's still a bad system in my mind. But we had a five star review today in a very reputable festival site which will help get more people into the show. The average audience for a festival show is six people, that's right six. We are averaging about about twenty five now and hoping that the numbers keep going up. The festival is crazy and I am having to time of my life. We have producers coming in from the New Vic (a theatre in New York for those that haven't heard of it) I don't know if the Pearl would fit into their season but it is nice to be getting some attention at least.

I hope things are going well for you. Please keep sending out your thoughts, or prayers of support. It is what has gotten us this far that and the fact that the Irish, Greeks, Japanese, and Argentines are all known for being viscously stubborn people.

OK... to start with, I have no idea whjatsoever what to start with... Yet again, i have to, so i'll do so by saying that I am still alive, somewhere on the planet after a year of wandering around and getting myself involved in as many things I could find.

So... Where am I? Right now, in Poland, getting the final arrangements done for the wedding that's due on 2nd of September.

Where have i been for the last 12 months? Basically, in Romania, with a very short intermezzo in New Zealand.

What have I done? Well, as you people know me, I just cannot stick to one thing at a time, so there I was trying to do millions of them and generally getting frustrated by the lack of time, the stress or whatever other factor you might think of - you just name it, i'm assuring you it was somehow involved in the process.

The outcome:
1. 3 productions of story telling in a puppet theatre with Romanian folk tales
2. a production of the play "Old clown wanted" by Matei Visniec which is going to be toured in Poland this autumn and France next year, probably also to be presented in the OFF of the Avignon Festival.
3. a project of storytelling for blind and visually impaired people concluded in the production of a show based on Oscar Wilde short stories

The plans:
Well, first would be to get married. Now that's a bit more than a plan given that almost everything is set and going... Now, for the rest. I plan to move to Bucharest (that's still in Romania) for a little while, and work with a mime theatre company and give some workshops in paralel, while developing the project for the blind and visually impaired. Once again, quite many things at once. I'll get back to you with the details and, once I'll be back home with pictures of the shows and locations and whatever else might inspire me at that point...

Well it does seem a long time since I have written a message to all yous LISPA people. How are you all, I wonder, out there in the world doing your things?

I am still here in London, and am prompted to write because I wanted to share with you a little life event. That is that Simon and I are getting married! Hopefully next Summer some time, and maybe even for the rest of our lives..

Apart from that, things plod slowly forwards. London seems thin on the ground without you, and misses you a great deal. I am working, fighting (mainly with myself these days in your absense), trying to make £££, getting a foot in the door, on which it sometimes slams quite painfully, and generally going about the buisness of wondering how in the world to do it.
So that is I.

I hope the sun in shining in your place. Be good to hear from you.

.....just thought I'd let you know whats been happening with me...

I have just completed a nine month tour throughout the UK as a puppeteer with a children's show, completely manic, but what a way to see Britain. Benjamin and I also married on April 22, 2006, so I guess I now write this as Lisa Short!

We are very much settled in the UK, with a studio appartment in West London. Going to Prague in a few weeks for a weekend break, then Padova for the clown workshop, then travel passes across Europe...who knows when or where it will all end!

News from Three Sticks

Lispa Friends,

The Three Sticks Theatre Company is proud to announce that we now have a website. Check it out at www.threestickstheatre.org. The website is still in its early stages, just as we are, and can only include so much without a history. We hope to get more photos up of the most recent production, The Ice Palace, as soon as we can.

We are also pleased to announce that several members of the company will gather in Minneapolis again this summer to create our third piece, Borderlines, which will be presented at the 2006 Minnesota Fringe Festival as well as the South Dakota Theatre Festival. We had such a great response to our show, Mythed, last summer and couldn't help bringing another show to these Festivals.

Finally, (we're almost out of breath) the St Paul Winter Carnival has asked us to return in 2007 with another winter-themed piece. No concrete plans have been made, but there is discussion of a wintery adaptation of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, of course, called A Midwinter Night's Dream, with no other than Katie Melby playing... Bottom!

Update on Dafydd James '05

Daf has been a very busy boy.

After finishing LISPA, he went to America along with the other members of the Three Sticks Theatre Company to further develop their Mythed musical for the Minneapolis Fringe Festival. A quick tour of the states also took him to Seattle to work with Keira for a while then back to the UK.

Moving back to Cardiff landed him in the National Theatre of Wales in a production of Hen Rebel.

Currently he is starring as a six year old boy who becomes a Super Hero in Kapow with Theatre Na N'og in their English speaking school tour. Later this spring, the show will be converted into Welsh to continue touring.

Other Projects in development:
Slap for the Edinburgh Festival
Whatever! the Musical will be launched in London some time next year.
Member of Project 9 - a company in Cardiff of actors, writers, creators that support new work.

On top of this he's found the time to buy a house and set up shop in Cardiff to finish his Ph.D.

Way back when Kelley Wade (LISPA '04) lived in that li'l spot (not all that far from Brokeback Mountain) called Denver, she became a core member of one of the most innovative and cutting edge theatre companies called the Lida Project. So cutting edge that they tended to cut things off. Yes, I actually attended a show where a bloke cut his own member off...

Anyway... The Lida Project have decided to bring their hit show to London to play at the Camden People's Theatre. Manson Family Values. Check it out. I guarantee it will be worth it. Disturbing but worth it!

Kajsa Ekström '04 - At Home in Stockholm

Well, I wanted to tell you a bit about my life at the moment.

I've just bought a flat in the centre of Stockholm, Sweden! It's a studioflat, really nice - and the best part is that it wasn't as expensive as all the flats are here at the time, it's really a bargain!

I'm in a project right now, it's a Showcase. I'm doing a scene from A Streetcar Named Desire, where I do Stella. It's the scene where Blanche tries to convince Stella to leave Stanley and we've made a really interesting scene out of one of the world's most famous plays. We don't do it in a traditional way as you often see it. We'll perform during a week at a stage in the centre of Stockholm and hopefully a lot of producers, casting directors and directors will come. And that it will give me tons of jobs!!!

I actually have a job coming up, and it's on the other side of the ocean - in Troy, NY! It's for a summer program that NYSTI (New York State Theatre Institute) arranges every year. I'll be the assistant director and I'll be in the States for a couple of weeks; late July to beginning of September. The deal is, though, that if I get a better job here in Sweden I won't go, but I'd really love to go, so the decision in that case will be very hard.

Keira McDonald '05 - Taking Seattle by Storm!

Here is what is up with me...

My solo show "The Bridesmaid" opened on February 10th to a very enthusiastic and giggley audience. It is now a multi-media event involving 4 live monologues and 8 film bits projected on a huge screen. The film bits help with the arc of the character for those of you who know the show. So, we see my character endure 13 weddings...Yep, thirteen ugly dresses! The film bits have been such a hit that we (the filmmaker and I) are developing those bits into a short that we will submit to film festivals next year. Other than that, this past August fellow alumnus Daffyd James and I workshopped a new musical with Annex Theatre, a local theatre here in Seattle to a very receptive audience. I am teaching for Seattle Children's Theatre Drama School. One of the classes I taught in the fall was called Original Works Ensemble. We created a piece about modern communication. Basically, it turned into Romeo and Juliet in cyberspace. Lots if IM'ing and texting and such. So now I have been commissioned to write the full length play for their 2007 summer season. I am also currently touring a show during the week with a local company called "Book -It Theatre." And as soon as "The Bridesmaid" closes I will do a re-mount of a show that I helped to develop and performed in 4 years ago called " Cherry, Cherry, Lemon" which will open in April.

It has been a wild ride since I left LISPA. At once, I flew into Boston and met friends at a "Compassionate Friends" convention. This is an organization for parents and siblings of children who have died. My friends lost their sister 20 years ago and they are very involved with the organization. So I take a cab to the hotel from the airport and I get a note at the front desk that says I should meet them in Conference Room B. So I proceed after a long flight and I walk into a workshop with the clowns from Big Apple Circus! After a great weekend back on American soil I flew into Seattle during the fireworks show on 4rth of July. Quite a homecoming I should say...

Exploring cultural, religious, sexual and gender identities in a theatrical way, the workshops will use full body as 'Mask'. It will Look at physical theatre techniques to help us identify our own and other people's masks' and then incorporate them to create characters and performances, based on the participants ideas, while also gaining a greater understanding of the self.

Please come and see my play. It's the dead of winter, the skies are bleak and grey, and an ideal time to sit through a swift hour on loneliness, depression and suicide.

The play takes place above the Old Red Lion pub (outside Angel tube turn left, cross straight over lights and pub few doors down on left), so within easy reach of a pint in which to drown sorrows, wallow in self pity and generally feel miserable.

On the TV: Re-enacting Kerouac Interviews

"The only people for me are the mad ones," Jack Kerouac writes in "On the Road," "the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never yawn or say a commonplace thing."

He would have loved the Elevator Repair Service, the inspired avant-garde company whose new work, "No Great Society," is primarily composed of the transcribed text from two television interviews with Kerouac. Only a slightly cracked company would read the entirety of "The Great Gatsby" in a five-hour show, "Gatz." Or mount "The Bacchae" with puppets.

Under the careful guidance of John Collins, the director, their new show is a joy from start to finish, featuring excellent performances and the loose-limbed spirit of work born out of improvisation. The first half is a madcap re-enactment of a 1968 episode of William F. Buckley's "Firing Line," which showcases four otherworldly eccentrics (Mr. Buckley, Kerouac, Ed Sanders from the band the Fugs and an academic, Lewis Yablonsky) so different from one another that they don't seem to belong to the same species.

In his spot-on imitation of Mr. Buckley, Ben Williams captures every drawn-out vowel and self-satisfied smirk, while acting as the ringmaster of this circus. Sanders (Scott Shepherd), wearing yellow socks on his feet that match the floppy curls on his head, uses "freak" as a verb, and suggests that the Vietnam War is a conspiracy to attract more jeeps into Vietnam. Vin Knight's nasal-sounding professor has spent years studying youth culture, but can't seem to pronounce "commune."

Still, Kerouac (Susie Sokol), who in real life died of alcoholism a year after the Buckley broadcast, steals the show, drunkenly interrupting everyone and, despite Mr. Buckley's efforts, refusing to play the part of the grandfather of the Beats. "I believe in order, tenderness and piety," the eye-rolling Ms. Sokol says in a working-class accent.

Part 2 is loosely based on an appearance that Kerouac made on Steve Allen's variety show in 1959. After taking off his gray wig in front of the audience, Mr. Williams transforms into Mr. Allen, all smiles and show-biz charm. Kerouac looks uncomfortable, but this interview quickly departs from any realism and turns into something much moodier and almost dreamlike (Mr. Collins added the stark, affecting lighting). Ms. Sokol, a youthful-looking downtown fixture with pencil-thin legs and deadpan delivery, performs silly dances, riffs on passages from Kerouac and even speaks as herself. "Susie told me she was nervous before the show," Mr. Williams says. "Are you nervous now?" She says no.

Is this an homage to Kerouac's stream-of-consciousness style? Or a collection of small reminders that these are actors playing characters? Whatever the purpose, the Elevator Repair Service makes sure that there is nothing commonplace about its delightful show. Yawning is out of the question.

We have just founded a theatre company, flutter theatre.

As many of you will know, it has been an incredible journey to even get to this point, - starting something that started a way back- and we owe all our friends big thankyous for helping us take each step forwards, by coming to see our work in progress, giving feedback and offering your encouragement and shows of confidence.

The show will have altered considerably since the work-in-progress showing in November, so we hope the audience will feel rewarded (with a good story, this time, and less of a 'sketch' format) to chart its progress by seeing itagain. Needless to say, it would be a tremendous support to us if our supporters feel confident to bring friends, family, colleagues and lovers along – not to mention the fact that the theatre is small and *tickets are already on sale *at the Rosemary Branch. One of Megan's friends, Claire, has already arranged for a party of ten to come and have a Thai buffet beforehand!

A week ago masha and i finished a show about futuristic anti machine human insurgency, buckwheat and the story of the three little weazels and the owl (a template for why the weazels go pop), at the moment we are pondering our life and where to live it, chicago is glooming outside our walls and something is knawing on the inside of me asking to run. i will get pictures up in a week or so, it's good to hear your distant voices my friends.

At the moment, I'm performing a show with my company, ACTIVE EYE. It's called Hard Lovin' Ever After, and it's an adaptation of an 18th century Japanese play by Chikamatsu, tricked out with cowboy Buddhist monks and beat-boxing. In May, the Split Knuckle gang--Greg, Eva, Michael, Seth, Juan, and me--is heading to Argentina. We'll be re-working the Pearl and presenting it there, then taking it to Edinburgh in August. We've started a blog for that, too: www.splitknuckle.blogspot.com. Not really many posts yet, but more will happen as we gear up to go to Buenos Aires.

Happy New Year!

Here is what's going on with me.

I moved back to Boulder in July 2005, after going to a Christians in Theatre
Arts (CITA) conference and leading a workshop on physical theatre for other
theatre artists. I attended the Red Nose, and A Clowns Life workshops with
Giovanni in the fall, which was fantastic. It was so great to be in a
learning environment again, as well as to work with wonderful people like
Amy Russell (who joined the class for two weeks), Kelley, Liz, Lucia and
Mark from our class at LISPA, Darren and Maya from the year after us, Jeremy
from the program in Boulder the year before us, Elise whom many of you knew
from Paris, as well as many other new and wonderful people.

I have been growing in my interest in teaching, and so I began sending
applications to Universities in Lebanon... It will be a miracle if I get a
job since there are so few of that kind there, but I believe in miracles, so
I am trying anyway. That is really where I'd like to be heading and I am
planning to move to Lebanon in the fall rain or shine.

As I was working on my resume, and sending letters out, I realized that the
one crucial thing I am missing is experience teaching. So, God took care of
that for me. I got a phone call Dec 13th from Colorado Christian University
in Lakewood asking me to apply to teach theatre there starting in January. I
sent in an application, had an interview, and got the job. I begin teaching
on January 10th. It will just be one Theatre Appreciation class twice a
week. This is a great opportunity I was not expecting and I am really
excited about it. Ideally I'd like to teach performance, but you have to
start somewhere.

Other than that I am working on a couple projects. Liz, Mark, Lucia, Myself
and two others from our clown workshop (Bobby and Bill) are meeting weekly
to continue clowning. I have a new one-woman show in the works which is
about cultural identity. I was planning to perform that in March, but I am
postponing it because it is nowhere near ready. I am working on a project
with someone I met at the CITA conference last summer. There are a few other
things in the works, but they're not really ready to speak of.

So, that's me at the moment. I really enjoy hearing from everyone when I do.

Symphony of Frogs is a driving, visual mosaic – assembled, disassembled, reassembled and misassembled. Constance and Paul aren't doing so great. A homeless woman is dragging the desert through their living room. The bride's getaway car is lodged in their icebox. If only the crow and wolf-man could satiate baby with a bottle of E minor. Universes peel from their Venetian blinds and leave the couple lost and unrecognizable to each other. Nonetheless, they have been here before.

From Mariko Kaonohi '05 - In Italy

O.k. So you want to know what's happening with me. Well, quite a lot so, where do I start . . .

I've taught a little over 3 weeks and I have next week off as the Commedia teacher(s) from Spain are coming in for the week. After that, I have two more weeks to teach and then I'm finished. I'll stay one more week and do Clown with the students as they have another clown teacher coming in from Spain (Paco), and then I fly back to London until I head to Poland in mid-April.

The teaching is going well and I'm using a lot of the improv stuff we did at LISPA our first year to introduce the students to this type of work. I think it's quite a good group and there is definitely talent, here. However, because I don't have that much time with them, I'm warp speeding ahead to build a base for them to before heading into character work. So, I started with Neutral Mask and took them into the elements, colors, music, words, architecture, and animals. The last thing we did yesterday was I had them be kids for the entire class in order to play as freely as possible before we started characters.

Anyway, they challenge me a lot because it's as if they want me to prove to them that this works.

What else . . . oh, yeah, the Olympics start tonight and I'm dog sitting for one of the students who lives in town (not with the rest of us in the villa). It's going to be great because I really want to see the opening ceremonies even if they are in Italian. And,it will be nice to be outside of the student's residence and be in a proper home for the weekend. This student has a triplex in Arezzo so I'm thrilled. There aren't many adults here so it's difficult but, still, I'm certainly not going to complain about being here. I think the school is very pleased with my work and how I deal with the students. A lot of the classes seem to naturally work well together and I think they're going to want me to come back in the Fall to teach. Cool with me!

Oh, and the most exciting thing . . . I attended a Master Class (singing) a couple of weeks ago which was held here through an org. in Florence. Kevin Crawford wanted me to work with the voice teacher who was teaching the class, Jill Feldman, as he knew I really wanted to work on my singing and get my voice back. I couldn't afford to pay for singing the class but I was able to watch. I was absolutely transformed with her technique and I spoke to her quite a bit that Saturday. I'm determined to work with Jill in the Fall when she's actually able to work w/me. She's way too busy right now, so . . . Can you believe it?

So, that's my news. I'll be back in London in March.
